Shawn says that "we always have room for one more." Whether that is a dinner guest or a chicken. And this was his response when I texted him a picture of a chick at the Memphis Animal Shelter.
It all started on my quest to help find Max. My friend Wendy has lost her baby pug, Max. He's two years old and was last seen off Winchester Rd. near Collierville, TN. We went to the Memphis Animal Shelter to look for him. Unfortunately, we didn't find Max. But we did find many sweet animals in need of homes, including a 3 mos. old chick. Luckily, the chick and many dogs and cats all found homes over the weekend. The next time you want a new pet, PLEASE visit your area shelter and PLEASE spay and neuter.
Since we started with four, we have often talked about adding another chick. Hollywood Feed on Broad Ave. added chicks to their inventory this spring and ran a $5 special this weekend. The chicks are all about 1-2 mos old. So we ventured to Hollywood "to pick up dog supplies" and came home with this little cutie, a Speckled Sussex.
She doesn't have a name yet and that's where you come in. Help us name the new chick. Here's what we know so far:
1. She is very independent.
2. She is very loud.
3. She likes you to put her on your lap or hand but doesn't want to be held too tightly.
4. She is cautious and curious.
So, there you have it. Let the naming of the chicken commence!
